Lot Number: 509

Description: Rare 1921 World Series panoramic display featuring player vignettes including Babe Ruth. Exceedingly scarce printed composite photographic display piece being the first of its kind we have encountered. Titled "World Series 1921, Polo Grounds, New York" at center with player portraits set over a view of the stadium. Those pictured include Babe Ruth, Miller Huggins, John McGraw, Frank Frisch, Frank Baker, Waite Hoyt, Dave Bancroft, and George Kelly. Also shown is the baseball signed by Christy Mathewson, Babe Ruth, and Warren G. Harding which was sold at a benefit that year for $750 which was at the time an incredible figure for such a piece. The purchaser was noted retailer Truly Warner whose "I'm on the fence, I'm for New York" quote is printed on right side opposite the ball. Housed in vintage 9"x38.5" frame with wear most prominent to left side which has several tears/creases. Upper left and lower right corners each have strip of toning. Marked "Langmann & McColgan" and appears to be printed on heavy paper stock. Incredibly scarce example is the first we have handled in our company history: VG
