Lot Number: 465

Description: Rare 1904 American League Imperial sized photographic display by Carl Horner. Extremely rare early photographic display piece is one of a limited number of surviving copies believed to have been given only to the managers and team executives of the teams depicted. Composite shows a collage arrangement of the (8) American League teams; Boston, Philadelphia, Cleveland, New York, Detroit, St. Louis, Chicago, and Washington. Notable players include Cy Young, Addie Joss, Nap Lajoie, Eddie Plank, Rube Waddell, Willie Keeler, and Sam Crawford. Managers of the teams are in slightly larger square vignettes highlighted by Mack, Griffith, and Collins with A.L. President Ban Johnson in the center. Teams, managers, and players are identified on original mount at bottom. Currently displays at VG-EX level with restoration to areas throughout with large portions of the left hand side having been skillfully inpainted to replace missing portions and give a clean appearance to others which presumably had condition issues which would warrant such expensive work. Most notably this affects players on St. Louis, Detroit, and to lesser degree Philadelphia. Identifier portion of mount has similarly had work done and it appears that its top edge has been rejoined to lower edge of photograph (it is likely that a small amount of the original material is no longer present). Visible area of the piece within current frame is approximately 18.75"x20" (measures 32.5"x33.75" overall): Displays at VG-EX level with note to description

Estimated Price Range: ($5,000-$10,000)
