Description: Important Bill Mazeroski 1960 World Series Most Outstanding Player "Babe Ruth Award" plaque with related materials. Within the rich history of the World Series there have been countless memorable performances by individual players in contribution to their team effort to win. There could be no credible debate as to the most notable of those individual performances that would not include Bill Mazeroski's 1960 World Series Game #7 walk off home run. As such, it was merely a formality that the New York Chapter of the Baseball Writers' Association of America would bestow its prestigious honor unto Bill Mazeroski as the Most Outstanding Player of the 1960 World Series. Initially presented in 1949 one year after its namesake, Babe Ruth, had passed away the annual accolade was presented to the outstanding player of the World Series each year. Black painted oval wooden plaque displays an applied sterling silver placard with crossed bat and ball decor inscribed to Mazeroski. 13 1/2" tall marked "Sterling" with Dieges & Clust hallmarks on front and label on the reverse. Overall condition presents beautifully with some typical light surface wear to the black painted surface. In addition to the identical award as presented to Whitey Ford in 1961 which we had the privilege of offering within our 2008 MLB All-Star Game live auction, the 1960 Mazeroski specimen is firmly positioned as one of the most significant of its type to have been offered at public auction. The plaque is accompanied by several notable supportive pieces to include: Original image of Mazeroski receiving the plaque along with the original typewritten letter of notification from the BBWAA. 12"x24" black and white panoramic image taken at the dinner awards picturing Mazeroski and the hundreds of guests. The program from the award ceremony is also included which desirably features a brief handwritten paragraph as penned by Bill Mazeroski relating to his acceptance speech which reads, "Home Run Greatest Thrill but being invited here to NY BBWAA dinner and receiving the Babe Ruth award is almost as great a thrill." Additionally included is a Bill Mazeroski single signed baseball with inscription, "1960 WS Babe Ruth Award". Includes auction LOA from JSA (ball): Award: EX-MT
