Description: Exceptional 1947 New York Yankees Old Timers Day baseball with (39) autographs (15 Hall of Famers). Well preserved Reach W.Harridge Official American League baseball (with rare orange/red alternating stitch coloration) attributed to September 28, 1947 gathering at Yankee Stadium which marked the first in what has become an unbroken chain of annual Old-Timers events held in New York. General Manager Lee MacPhail organized a (2) inning exhibition game to be played between former Yankees players and a team of other retired greats. The day's gate receipts were donated to The Babe Ruth Foundation. Total of (39) signatures with a number being then current Yankees players, a portion former team members, and the balance noted former stars including Ty Cobb, Frank Baker, Jimmie Foxx, Chief Bender, Mickey Cochrane (twice), Herb Pennock, Phil Rizzuto, Aaron Ward, Wally Pipp, Tris Speaker, George Sisler, Joe DiMaggio, Lefty Grove, Lefty Gomez, Bob Meusel, Mark Koenig, Red Rolge, Charles Gehringer, Bob Shawkey, Earle Combs, Wally Schang, Bucky Harris, Waite Hoyt, Roger Peckinpaugh, Joe Dugan, Wilcy Moore, and others. Uniformly strong fountain pen signatures rate 8 to 9 out of 10. Ball displays an even cream coloration retaining well defined League stampings over which "1947 Old Timers" has been written. One of only (2) signed baseballs we have encountered with ties to this historic occasion. Includes auction LOA from JSA and additional COA: NM-NM/MT
