Lot Number: 771

Description: Dixie Walker Sterling Silver presentational bat from Walter O'Malley in honor of his 1944 batting title. A fan favorite during the (9) seasons he played in Brooklyn, Dixie Walker also struck a chord with management and was later named by team owner Walter O'Malley to his "All Time Team." Walker played his best when in Dodger blue and in 1944 lead the National League with a .357 batting average. Five years later, in 1949, Louisville Slugger began the practice of awarding a silver bat to the best sluggers in each league at season's end, an honor Walker had missed out on. Years later, while employed by the Dodgers as a hitting instructor, O'Malley sought to honor Walker and in Spring Training of 1971 presented him with a specially commissioned silver bat. Substantive presentational piece has "Louisville Slugger" brand engraved at center along with Walker facsimile signature on barrel end and batting champion titling in between. In fine overall condition with a hint of tarnish and some light scattered wear. Weighs an impressive 54oz. and is marked, "International Sterling" on barrel end: EX/MT-NM
