Lot Number: 198

Description: Rare and unique James A. McDivitt and Edward H. White "Gemini 4" autographed baseball. Very clean off white Giles NL baseball signed on a side panel by the two astronauts Jim McDivitt and Ed White who took part on the Gemini 4 mission on which White became the first American to perform an "EVA" more commonly known as a "space walk". The flight lasted four days with the astronauts encircling the earth an amazing 66 times. Signatures remain very bold rating 8 out of 10 with date at top in McDivitt's hand "25 June 65" and White adding "GT-4" denoting the mission title. This particular baseball was signed for Spahn just 22 days after the Gemini 4 mission on the occasion of a visit by members of the Giants team to the NASA Manned Spacecraft Center. Tragically, White would perish in a horrific fire during the pre-launch sequence of the Apollo I mission along with colleagues Gus Grissom and Roger Chaffee. Highly desirable and unique piece of popular culture memorabilia with relation to one of the most significant space missions in the history of manned flight. Includes auction LOA from JSA and along with a vintage NASA 8"x10" black and white photo picturing Grissom, Spahn, and White: Ball :EX-MT, Signatures: NM
