Description: Exceptional 1960 Warren Spahn No Hitter presentational sterling silver tray and goblet set. Very fine sterling silver handled tray having been given to Spahn on the occasion of his September 16, 1960 no hitter pitched against the Philadelphia Phillies at Milwaukee's County Stadium. Handled tray measures 26" long and is inscribed to Spahn with team names, dating, and complete line score of the game along with facsimile signature of Braves owner Lou Perini. Stamped with International Sterling hallmarks on the bottom, total weight of 104 Troy ounces. The set also includes its original nine sterling silver goblets each inscribed with the recorded out details per inning. Marked with International Sterling hallmarks on the base weighing 6.4 Troy ounces each. Includes original hinged lid mahogany case with custom fit lined interior having "Warren Spahn" engraved brass placard on the lid exterior. The no hit game was amazingly the first of Spahn's storied career at the age of 39 coming within two walks of a perfect game. The lot includes a vintage color photograph of the set being presented to Spahn on the field in Milwaukee. Also included is an additional 8"x10" black and white photo picturing Lew Burdette and Spahn posing with a similar set which interestingly was given to Burdette just one month earlier for throwing a no hitter against the Phillies as well. Striking and very fine quality presentational set which was undoubtedly cherished by Warren Spahn throughout the many years since its receipt: Tray and goblets: NM, Case: EX
