Description: Fine Paul "Bear" Bryant tweed sport coat c.1972. The very name of Bear Bryant elicits reverence afforded only for the truly elite in the history of football. During his tenure as the head coach of the University of Alabama football team he compiled truly incomparable numbers to include six national championships, 13 conference championships, and 323 wins which at the time of his retirement ranked as the most in the history of collegiate football. Bryant was not only a legendary coach but he also grew to become a cultural icon associated with the great football tradition of the South. Two of Bear Bryant's most recognizable features on game day were his gingham hat and his famed tweed sportcoats. Offered is an original patterned tweed coat once worn by Coach Bryant around the early 1970s era. Coat exhibits evident use and wear including some typical light surface staining to the interior lining. Jacket retains its original "Norman Hilton/Richard's of Mountain Brook" labeling on interior lining with interior breast pocket having period identification label, "P. Bryant No. 53020 Date 10/72" . The jacket originated from a piano player at the Tuscaloosa Country Club frequented by Bryant and was given to the gentleman one evening after a show at which Bryant was in attendance. Truly outstanding rarity which clearly rates as one of the more notable Bear Bryant artifacts to have entered the marketplace. Includes letter of provenance and LOA from Hunt Auctions: EX
