Description: Rare 1954 Casey Stengel New York Yankees professional model home jersey. The "Old Professor" remains to date one of the most successful managers in the history of Major League Baseball. Stengel piloted the Yankees to multiple World Championships during the 1950s-1960s era including a record five consecutive crowns from 1949-1953. As Stengel was quoted in 1949 when hired to take over the Yankees team, "There is less wrong then any team I have ever managed." While the fact that the Yankees were laden with All-Star caliber players cannot be ignored, it was Stengel who excelled at managing that same elite group to unprecedented success during a highly competitive period in Major League Baseball. The offered jersey was passed down to the Minor League affiliate for use and retains its original Spalding tag in the collar along with size 42 flag tag. "37 C. Stengel" chain stitched onto the tail front with dry clean and "Set 1 1954" flag tag inside the tail. The shirt itself remains in very fine condition with light to moderate evident use while retaining fine patina and original color. Missing three buttons. The NY logo and #37 on the reverse have both been professionally restored with vestiges of the Minor League "S" emblem and #6 visible underneath. This particular Stengel Yankees home jersey represents one a scant few from the Hall of Fame member who is regarded among the greatest managers in Yankees history. Includes LOA from Hunt Auctions: EX (with note to restored logo/number)
