Lot Number: 563

Description: Early career Babe Ruth single signed baseball with possible 1915 World Series attribution. Reach Ban Johnson Official American League baseball has been mounted to pedestal as displayed within the home of Milt Stock for decades. Signed across the sweetspot "Babe Ruth" (rating 5/6-7 out of 10) in his distinctive early style being smaller and more highly positioned than those which are more commonly encountered. Ball has heavy coating of period shellac which has toned and some scattered surface chips, one of which affects the "B" in Babe. Block letter printed near League stampings, and largely obscured as a result of mounting, are a pair of notations which read "stock" and "Wor...915" (likely World Series 1915). Stock was a member of the 1915 Phillies team which played Boston in the World Series that year. While it can not be stated definitively, we believe this likely indicates potential for the ball to have been signed at that time. Sitting within the pedestal base are a pair of c.1920s multi-signed baseballs (one being very faded c.1924 Brooklyn Robins team ball). The 1914 Giants ball also offered within the collection was initially part of this display as well. General toning/surface wear to pedestal/display base. Exceptionally early Ruth exemplar which, had it not been so mounted by Stock, would likely rank amongst the more important to have surfaced. Includes auction LOA from JSA: VG-EX
