Description: April 30, 1952 Ted Williams Day presentational plaque with photographic provenance. Significant plaque as presented to Williams in honor of his re-entry into the U.S. Marine Corps to serve in the Korean War in 1952. Mahogany plaque measures 11"x15" with an inscribed brass placard at the top, "To Theodore Williams on your reentrance into the Marine Corps from your Red Sox team mates." The body of the plaque also displays additional plaques having facsimile signatures of the Red Sox players, coaches, and owners including Joe Cronin, Tom Yawkey, Lou Boudreau, and Dom DiMaggio. Overall condition is very fine, with some light surface scratching to the wooden surface area, and two small joint repairs to the laurel decoration on front. The April 30, 1952 celebration was an extremely poignant moment in the career and life of Ted Williams. A sellout crowd paid tribute to Williams before his departure to again serve his country in the Korean War. Includes a vintage black and white 8"x10" photograph picturing Dom DiMaggio presenting the offered plaque to Ted Williams. Stamped by Life magazine photographer Leonard McCombe on the reverse: EX
