Lot Number: 50

Description: Exceptional Ted Williams professional model baseball bat with additional provenance from Bobby Doerr c.1947-1948. Louisville Slugger 125 model bat measures 35" long and weighs 31.6 oz. The bat shows very fine evident use including ball marks, stitching impressions, rack marks, appropriate light barrel checking, and a precise hitting surface to one area of the barrel, with hand scored "X" markings likely done by Williams for additional grip to the ball. Knob end displays no visible model stampings, with "Ted Williams" facsimile signature stamping presenting nicely on the barrel end. In addition to having the desirability of coming from the personal collection of Ted Williams, this particular bat also includes additional history as related to Red Sox teammate Bobby Doerr. Included with the bat is a handwritten note tag by Bobby Doerr which reads, "Dear John-Henry; This is a bat your dad used in 1951. I started a bat collection then and have had it here since. Would like for you to have it. You should have your Dad autograph it and say he used in in 1951. Bob Doerr". The bat is in fact signed by Williams in blue sharpie across the barrel end. Along with the 1960 All-Star Game bat within this auction, this example was the only other game bat within the Williams' collection. By all measurable standards available, Ted Williams is regarded as the greatest hitter in Major League history. While admittedly a subjective topic, we feel resolute in agreeing with popular opinion. As such, the offered bat dating to the very prime of Williams' historic career as a batsman, originating from his personal collection, and having additional provenance from a cherished teammate could arguably be among the most important specimens extant. Includes LOAs from Hunt Auctions (bat) and JSA (autograph): EX-EX/MT
