Lot Number: 45

Description: May 4, 1946 Ted Williams home run baseball hit off of Bob Feller. Moderately toned and game used William Harridge American League baseball, which was belted for a home run by Ted Williams off of pitcher Bob Feller in a game played at Fenway Park on May 4, 1946. Side panel of the ball is inscribed in Ted Williams, "1st Homer off Bob Feller 1946 May 4". Inscription has appropriately faded from age, but remains clearly visible rating 5 out of 10. Amazingly, the offered ball was the first home run that Williams had ever hit off of Bob Feller in his career which began in 1938. Ted Williams had a measurable amount of respect for Feller throughout their careers and afterwards. Williams once spoke of Feller, "the fastest and best pitcher I ever saw during my career. He had the best fastball and curve I've ever seen." This particular baseball was highly prized by Ted Williams and in fact was the only such example of a period home run baseball from the (521) total that Ted hit that he kept and retained within his collection. Very fine rarity with exceptional provenance: EX
