Description: Significant 1957 Ted Williams Player of the Year Award. Until 1969, the prestigious Sporting News Player of the Year designation was the only major award presented to a single MLB player rather then by league. Williams' 1957 campaign was most certainly worthy as he batted .388 with 38 home runs and finished second in the AL MVP award voting. All of these statistics compiled at the age of 39. The 1957 award was Williams' fifth of his career ranking, to date, as the most ever received by a single player (several players tied with three each). The award certificate itself measures 16"x20" in its original frame with hand colored appointments. Signed at the bottom by The Sporting News Publisher, A.G.Spink. The frame itself exhibits some typical age and handling wear inclusive of some minor surface scratching.
