Description: Ted Williams 1969 Greatest Living Outfield award. During the celebration of the 100th anniversary of professional baseball, Babe Ruth was voted the "Greatest Player in Baseball History". Mrs. Ruth was present at the gala function held on July 21, 1969 in Washington, D.C. to accept the award on behalf of her late husband. Numerous other baseball greats were also on hand to receive honors for their various talents. Ted Williams was honored as one of the Greatest Living Outfielders and awarded the offered trophy. The trophy measures 10" tall comprised of a black onyx base with an applied brass placard on the front inscribed, "Baseball's Greatest Living Players Outfield" along with the Major League Baseball 100th Anniversary logo. A gold baseball is situated atop the base surrounded by a figural brass ring. Original Balfour label remains affixed underneath the base. General condition is very fine with some light surface wear and oxidation. Considering the innumerable baseball greats that graced Major League stadiums for the first 100 years of baseball, it is a true testament to the respect accorded to Ted Williams that he was honored as one of the elite outfielders in the history of the game.
