Description: Scarce Richard Hoblitzell Boston Red Sox professional model complete road uniform c.1914-1918. Grey flannel jersey, pants, and hat as worn by Boston Red Sox third baseman Richard Hoblitzell during the late teens. Pinstriped jersey remains in outstanding original condition with "Red Sox" across the front in red lettering which has appropriately faded to a pinkish-red coloration. Horace Partridge Co. manufacturing label is affixed inside the collar along with "Hoblitzell" chain stitched label. The shirt even retains its original "fat straps" at the bottom of the back used to keep the shirt tucked into the pants. Matching pinstriped pants also retain their original Horace Partridge Co. manufacturer's tagging inside the pants along with "Hoblitzell" chain stitched label. The uniform also includes its very rare original pinstriped small bill hat retaining its original leather interior headband with Wright & Ditson, Boston manufacturer stamping in the leather. Overall condition is exceptional showing evident use and appropriate age toning while retaining a fine overall appearance. There are a scant few period moth holes on the jersey and pants which are mentioned for accuracy only. During the tenure in which Hoblitzell played for the Red Sox from 1914-1918, the team appeared in three World Series making it completely plausible that this particular shirt may have seen World Series play. Pre 1920s Major League professional model uniforms are exceedingly rare with the offered example ranking as one of the finest of its type that we have encountered.
