Lot Number: 313

Description: April 30, 1952 Ted Williams Day collection including autographed program and two ticket stubs. In January of 1952 Ted Williams was recalled from a reserve list to serve as Captain in the U.S. Marine Corps. The Red Sox quickly planned for a day to honor Ted before his departure to service which was held at Fenway Park on April 30, 1952. A sellout crowd generated thunderous applause during a moving day of ceremonies and game action. Fittingly, Williams smashed a two run homer in his final at bat in the seventh inning to lead the Red Sox to a two run victory. At the end of the ceremony in which Williams received, among other items, a Cadillac the fans all joined hands and sang "Auld Lang Syne". Ted later remarked that he was very "moved" by that moment and the appreciation the fans of Boston had exhibited. Offered is a notably rare set of materials as obtained at Fenway Park on Ted Williams day in 1952. Includes 1952 Red Sox game program which has been neatly scored in pencil and has been autographed by Williams in blue sharpie: EX-MT; Scarce exterior program sheath picturing Williams batting with titling at the bottom. The sheath exhibits some border creasing and other typical light handling wear also signed by Williams across the front: VG-EX; (2) ticket stubs from the game day: EX; and two original snapshot photos taken during the game and field ceremonies: VG-EX. Includes auction LOA from JSA and two individual full LOAs from PSA/DNA for the two signatures.
