Lot Number: 114

Description: Unique Knute Rockne and Grantland Rice, et. al. autographed football. Wilson Official "Rockne" signature model football has been signed on a single panel by Knute Rockne, Grantland Rice, Ed Thorp, and Frank Carrideo with the date "January 6, 1931" notated in unknown hand. Each of the signers has their own import with Rockne being one of the most legendary of all figures in football; Rice - the noted sportswriter who coined the now famous "Four Horseman" moniker for Rockne's fabled Notre Dame backfield; Thorp who was one of the most prominent sporting good retailers of the period; and Carrideo had just lead Notre Dame to a pair of National Championships. The adjacent panel has been signed by then Mayor of New York Jimmy Walker. Fountain pen signatures rate 7/8 out of 10. Ball comes with a unique glass domed period wooden display case. It was, in the period, deflated to allow for it to sit within the case and remains so with the interior bladder cracked inside (thus - ball can not be inflated). Displays limited exterior wear when positioned for display. Unique autographed piece hosting the rare signature of Rockne makes for an interesting and impressive display. Includes auction LOA from JSA: Ball EX, Sigs. EX/MT, Case EX/MT
