Description:"Morrill" Ring decorated baseball bat c.1890s. Late 19th Century baseball bat with series of (11) rings decorating the barrel which has been block letter stamped, "Morrill." The bat originates from the New England area and although it can not be stated with certainty it is believed to have emanated from the sporting goods store opened by noted player "Honest John" Morrill following his career with the Red Stockings/Beaneaters. Morrill became highly successful and is credited with inventing the football face-mask and laced front pants. Varying degrees of surface wear and soiling throughout with barrel end exhibiting some loss of wood due to drying: VG/EX
