Lot Number: 213

Description: 1905 World Series program (at New York). After refusing an offer to play the Boston Americans at the close of the 1904 season, New York Giants owner John T. Brush eagerly accepted the challenge from Athletics ownership to play a best of seven game series in 1905. Surely Brush knew that his team, which was lead by Christy Mathewson, would make quick work of the NL Champ A's, and they did not disappoint. New York took the second modern-era World Series in five games with Mathewson pitching, and winning, a remarkable three complete games. All of the games were plagued by inclement weather which likely accounts for the extreme rarity of any related paper matter which would have been on hand, including programs. Original program issued for game played at the Polo Grounds, scored neatly in pencil for Game 2 which was played October 10. Consistent wear throughout front and back covers inclusive of edge/corner wear and chipping, scattered creasing (most of which does not fully break the surface), and more pronounced horizontal center fold. Lower right front corner reinforced with tape from the back; two left hand corners of back cover missing. The bound edge has separated and the covers are affixed to first interior facing pages with strip of adhesive along extreme edge. Color touched up slightly with nearly matched orange in several places: Technical PR-GD with note to separation
