Description: Significant Roberto Clemente hand inscribed professional model baseball bat from his 2,999th hit. On September 28, 1972, the Pirates and Phillies met at Veterans Stadium where Roberto Clemente, facing Steve Carlton, recorded his 2,999th hit. It would be his second to last and helped cap his 18th season in baseball. He was voted an All-Star that year for the 12th time and won his 12th Gold Glove. Two days later he collected hit 3,000 and three months later his life was tragically cut short. Almost (40) years later, Clemente still stands as a giant within the game. A player whose legend has grown along with interest in his life both on and off the field. There are few pieces within its category available on a public level which can rival the offered in terms of both significance and desirability. A game bat right from his hands used as he turned the corner on one of a hitters' greatest measurable achievements. Adirondack 302 model bat with "R.Clemente" block lettered in barrel end measures 36.25" long and weighs 38oz. Evident usage wear throughout including faint pine tar, numerous ball transfer/stitch marks, and a darkened ring where a batting donut was located. Model number "234X" has been stamped in the knob which also bears vintage "21" player number notation (also appearing on opposite end). Clemente has inscribed the barrel, "To Rudy + Flo, My friends for 18 years" in ink rating 6/7 out of 10. In vibrant green marker, next to the inscription, has been handwritten, "Hit 2,999." Truly remarkable rarity with unimpeachable provenance which can be argued as the finest Clemente game bat to enter the marketplace. Includes LOA from Hunt Auctions, full LOA from JSA (attesting to the handwriting), and letter of provenance from the family: EX
