Lot Number: 69

Description: Mickey Morandini autographed September 20, 1992 unassisted triple play game-used base and hat with lineup cards and ticket. In the 6th inning of the September 20, 1992 Phillies vs. Pirates game Mickey Morandini caught a line-drive hit by Jeff King, tagged second base to put out Andy Van Slyke, and tagged Barry Bonds coming from first base. With that he became the first player since 1968 to turn an unassisted triple play with further distinction of being the first second baseman in NL history, and the first during the regular season, to accomplish the feat. Offered are the base from the game signed "Mickey Morandini 9-20-92", professional model Phillies hat (New Era 5950 size 6 7/8 with handwritten 12 identifier) signed on the front in marker, both the Phillies and Pirates game line-up cards, and an unused game ticket signed on the front. Black marker signatures rate 8 to 9 out of 10, hat and base exhibit expected usage wear. As noted in John Thorn's book "Treasures of the Hall of Fame" Morandini has donated the uniform he wore during the play to the Hall of Fame. Fine archive of material related to an historic baseball moment. Includes LOAs from Hunt Auctions, JSA (autographs), and original Phillies Charities receipt for "Mickey Morandini Triple Play Package": EX-NM
