Description: "Union League" Folk Art painted baseball bat display piece c.1910-20s. Exceptional oversized baseball bat display piece measuring 73" in total length having graduated incised rings throughout. Hand painted "Union League" lettering is found at the centerbrand area of the bat having a desirable 'alligatored' surface from age patination. 'Union League' titling may in fact bear reference to the baseball grounds near Union Street in Wilmington, DE , nearby which, the offered bat was found. Dating to the 1880s the Union Association, and others, played their games at the Wilmington Ball grounds near Front and Union streets.
