Lot Number: 375

Description: Exceedingly rare and desirable vintage autographed Sep. 9, 1965 Sandy Koufax perfect game ticket stub. Original stub from game played in Los Angeles vs. the Chicago Cubs in which Koufax became only the sixth pitcher of the modern era to throw a perfect game. After joining the Brooklyn Dodgers in 1955 Koufax very publicly struggled to maintain big league standards and battled repeated injuries. He nearly gave up on baseball following a dismal year in 1960. In the off-season he decided to give it another try and showed up in 1961 ready to play. Over the (5) seasons that followed, until injury would cut his career short, Koufax absolutely dominated baseball putting together a string of what many consider to be the best years ever had by a pitcher. His 1965 perfect game was the fourth no-hitter of his career (then a Major League record) and helped to earn his second of three consecutive Cy Young Awards. Unable to deal with the constant pain he was playing in, Koufax retired the following year at the height of his career. At age (36) became the youngest inductee in baseball's Hall of Fame. Original ticket stub signed on the front, "Sandy Koufax." Blue ink signature rates 8 out of 10. In exceptionally well preserved condition exhibiting minor wear at corners. Exceedingly rare stub is only the second vintage signed example we have encountered. Includes LOA from JSA: Overall EX/MT-NM
