Lot Number: 252

Description: Babe Ruth et. al. autographed baseball attributed to the 1923 World Series. J.Heydler ONL baseball has been mounted to black painted wooden blotter which is gold lettered "Compliments of Christy Walsh" and "Ball used in World Series 1923 Giants vs. Yankees." It has been signed by Babe Ruth, Miller Huggins, Nick Altrock, Pat Moran, and John J.McGraw. Bold black ink signatures rate 7-9 out of 10 with surface loss to ball effecting the "Babe" portion of Ruth and several letters on others. The McGraw (8/9 out of 10) is an exceptionally large example filling an entire side panel from league stampings to stitching and Huggins is flawless rating 9/10 out of 10. Ball itself exhibits a gold colored even toning with scattered usage wear and surface loss (largely confined to single panel) with period coat of shellac applied. Walsh was the first "super agent" of the modern era representing a host of notables including Ruth and Gehrig and often used blotters with signed or otherwise desirable baseballs affixed as promotional items. This represents one of the more significant we have handled offering a direct line of provenance to an historic World Series. Includes LOA from JSA: Blotter EX/MT, Ball VG/EX, Signatures: Range VG-NM
