Lot Number: 453

Description: Fine Joe DiMaggio professional model baseball bat c.1950-51. Louisville Slugger 125 model bat measures 36" long and weighs 34.6oz. The bat exhibits evident use including ball marks, stitching impressions, and rack marks. Model D29L is stamped on the knob end with trademark "Joe DiMaggio" facsimile signature stampings on the barrel. Signed on the barrel by DiMaggio in blue sharpie, which is notable since DiMaggio rarely signed game used materials including items in his own personal collection. The bat was given directly to Mickey Vernon by DiMaggio during his playing career and was then subsequently signed by Joe at Mickey Vernon's request many years later. Although Vernon did not typically capture national headlines during the 1940s the way DiMaggio and Williams did, they all enjoyed a mutual respect for each other as professional hitters. Between the years of 1939 and 1953, either Joe DiMaggio, Ted Williams, or Mickey Vernon won the AL batting title in eight of those fifteen seasons. Very fine Joe DiMaggio game used bat dating specifically to the final two seasons of his career (both World Championships) with unimpeachable direct provenance from Mickey Vernon. Includes LOAs from Hunt Auctions (bat) and JSA (autograph) along with a letter of provenance from the Vernon family: EX
