Description: 1956 Jim Brown "Athlete of the Year" trophy. Large brass plated loving cup style trophy was presented to All-American player Jim Brown as the "Athlete of the Year" in Syracuse for 1956. Brown's 1956 collegiate season culminated with a unanimous selection as a first team All-American and he finished fifth in the Heisman Trophy balloting. The trophy itself stands an impressive 25" tall and is inscribed on the body, "Herald Journal Ninth Annual Award Donated by Samuel Chiodo". Brass placard as applied to the cylindrical base is engraved, "Jim Brown All-American Halfback at Syracuse University. Holder of Athlete of Year Award in Syracuse for 1956". The trophy remains in original condition with some typical surface patination primarily to the body of the trophy.
