Description: Luke Appling game used fielder's glove c.1930s. Rawlings professional model G81 fielder's glove was used by Luke Appling during the early portion of his career with the Chicago White Sox. Voted the greatest living White Sox player in a 1969 fan poll, Appling held down the shortstop position for nearly twenty years. In that time, he established ML shortstop records for games played, double plays, and AL records for putouts and assists; all were later broken by Luis Aparicio. Appling was elected to the Hall of Fame in 1964. The glove is mounted in a 3 1/2"x15 1/2"x15 1/2" shadowbox along with an autographed example of Appling's 1934 Goudey card. The glove appears well preserved and shows excellent usage characteristics. Accompanying the display is an oversized 11"x14" original George Burke photograph of Appling wearing a glove that shows similar characteristics to the offered glove. Also included is a signed letter of provenance from Appling's daughter on White Sox letterhead attesting to the fact that her father used this glove during the early part of his career. Includes additional LOA from JSA (auto. card): Glove: apparent EX, Photo: VG, Card: apparent GD-VG
