Lot Number: 542

Description: 1944 St. Louis Browns American League Championship ring. Scarce 14k gold ring features an enamel and gold Browns shield logo mounted on the oval top. The shield is surrounded by raised letters reading "American League Champions." One side reads "19" below a ball and crossed-bats logo, while the other side reads "44" below a "St. Louis" flag. The St. Louis Browns had been members of the American League since 1902, but it wasn't until 1944 that they finally reached the World Series. Though their lone pennant came during World War II, when rosters were depleted, the drama of their World Series debut was heightened by the fact that their opponents (and co-tenants in Sportsman's Park), were the St. Louis Cardinals. Rare ring, the likes of which are seldom seen in the marketplace. Size 9 3/4. NM
