Description: Significant Live Oak Polka baseball decorative sheet music c.1860. Very important 19th century baseball artifact marks the first time that a baseball image appeared on printed sheet music. Front cover displays a breathtaking color engraving depicting a full game scene with uniformed players and fans watching the game. Baseball equipment adorns the periphery areas of the cover along with a large U.S. flag image draped along the top margin. Titled, "The Live Oak Polka" as composed by J.H. Kalbfleisch and "Respectfully Dedicated to the Live Oak B.B.C. Rochester, NY". Marked at the bottom margin by publisher Jos. P. Shaw Rochester, NY with a date of 1860. The piece remains in outstanding overall condition and is likely the finest of its type. Colors on the front cover present in their original tonality with minimal if any age fading. Interior music pages are also clean with light typical edge wear. As commonly seen, the music is separated at the spine with a few very minor tears at the spine which have been professionally restored.
