Description: ***UPDATED DATE*** Rare and Important 1903 National League Champion Pittsburgh Pirates season schedule display. Extraordinarily scarce and visually impressive cardboard display produced by the Pittsburgh Times measures 17 3/4"x22 3/4". Rich design elements include composite images of (20) members of the 1902 Pittsburgh Pirates adorning a laurel wreath, including Honus Wagner, Fred Clarke, Tommy Leach, Jack Chesbro, Deacon Phillippe, Kitty Bransfield and team owner Barney Dreyfuss. At the center is a color lithographed rendering of a stadium interior with game in progress. Perched atop the wreath is a rendering of period baseball equipment and a flag reading "Champions 1902". Primary titling reads "The Pittsburgh Times Base Ball Schedule". The bottom features the Pittsburgh Pirates schedule "At Home" and "Abroad" with dates of games to be played vs. each of Pittsburgh's seven National League opponents. The overall condition of the piece is superb for its age and fragile nature, retaining outstanding color and minimal structural faults. A small white border is apparent on all sides; however, the borders may have been trimmed slightly. The top portion of the printed marking "Mackenzie Davis Litho. Co. Pittsburgh, Pa." is visible on the small margin at bottom. The only notable faults include a few unobtrusive surface creases, mostly in the lower right quadrant, and some very minor edge wear. This piece was only recently discovered in the Northeast, and ranks among the finest baseball related display pieces of its era that we've handled: EX-EX/MT
