Original player contract from the 1956 season in which Stan Musial broke Mel Ott's NL record for extra-base hits and was named by The Sporting News as its first Player of the Decade. The contract issued to Musial called for a salary of $50,000 and has been signed on the interior by "Stanley F. Musial", Cardinals GM Frank Lane, and NL President Warren Giles. Signatures rate 9-10 out of 10. A typed section outlining "special covenants" including additional compensation details for public appearances by Musial has been affixed to the contract above the signatures. Accompanying the contract is a signed typewritten letter from Warren Giles on National League letterhead to Cardinals GM Frank Lane expressing his approval of the contract.
