Lot Number: 184

Description: Exceptional Mickey Mantle professional model baseball bat c.1966. Louisville Slugger 125 model bat measures 35" long and weighs 32.3oz. The bat displays tremendous evidence of use including ball marks on all hitting surfaces, stitching impressions, and cleat marks. The back of the barrel has some surface checking from repeated ball contact which has been professionally restored for aesthetic purposes only. Model #W215 is stamped on the knob end, directly dating the bat to the 1966 season, which was the only occasion in which Mantle used that model according to Louisville Slugger factory records. The bat originated from the personal collection of Mantle's teammate, Mel Stottlemyre. Stottlemyre was associated with a gentleman from Yakima, WA, where Stottlemyre's family once resided. The bat was given directly to the gentleman by Stottlemyre following the 1966 season along with other Yankees related materials. Mickey Mantle remains, to date, the more popular and revered slugger of baseballÆs Golden Era in the 1950s. The manner in which Mantle both played and lived his life during the 1950-60s endeared him to a generation of American fans and cemented his legacy as one of the all-time greats of the game. Very fine Mantle game bat with desirable provenance and succinct usage documentation with regard to dating period. Includes LOAs from MEARS Authentication (Graded A9.5), PSA/DNA (Graded GU9), Hunt Auctions, and a letter of provenance from the original recipient: EX
