Description: 1909 Indiana vs. Illinois trophy basketball display piece. Unique period display item consists of one half of a period game ball which has been mounted to a wooden plaque. The ball is hand painted in the school colors and has titling of "U/I 23 and I 13" on the front. Plaque has team names and dating of March 6, 1909 in gilt paint. The offered display was one of numerous such pieces that once hung in the University of Indiana trophy room until the 1970s, at which point they were de-accessioned (IU-Bloomington metal plaque affixed to the reverse). The ball itself retains a fine original surface with its Spalding mfg. stamping visible on one side. Wooden plaque has been cut along the left edge likely due to removal: VG-EXEstimated Price Range: ($500-750)
