Lot Number: 542

Description: 1964 Carl Yastrzemski auto. Boston Red Sox professional model home jersey. Cream colored home flannel shirt remains completely original and unaltered, featuring red piping, original "Red Sox" lettering across the front, and Yaz's original number "8" on back. A tag stitched on the front tail features the year designation "'64" with no other manufacturer's tags present. The overall condition of the jersey is outstanding with evident game use and no significant structural faults. Yastrzemski has added a large signature above the number on the back of the jersey in bold black marker. Signature rates 8-9 out of 10. Yastrzemski arrived in the Major Leagues in 1961 as the heir apparent to the legendary Ted Williams in left field. For 23 years, Yastrzemski proudly wore his famous "#8" for the Red Sox, with his extraordinary batting style and his unmatched skill in patrolling the grounds in front of the Green Monster. In the Red Sox' 1967 "Impossible Dream" season, he won the American League Triple Crown and was named the A.L.'s Most Valuable Player. At the time of his retirement, Yastrzemski was the all-time American League leader in games played (3,308) and was the only American League player to amass 3,000 hits and 400 home runs. A seven-time Gold Glove winner, Yaz made 18 All-Star Game appearances, and is generally considered one of the finest defensive left fielders of all-time. Early career Yaz flannels such as this are exceedingly scarce. Includes letter of provenance from original recipient. Additional LOAs from Hunt Auctions (jersey) and JSA (auto.): EX
