Description: 1994 Lefty Gomez Award presented to Sam Suplizio. Sam Suplizio, a one-time prospect in the New York Yankees farm system, rose to help bring Major League baseball to Colorado and made the National Junior College World Series a community institution on the Western Slope. Also a coach for the Anaheim Angels for a time, Suplizio was on the field at Camden Yards the night of Sept. 6, 1995, when Cal Ripken broke Lou Gehrig's streak of 2,130 consecutive starts. This 16 1/4" tall trophy representing the Lefty Gomez Award was presented to Suplizio in 1994 "For His Outstanding Contributions and Distinguished Service To College Baseball". Wooden trophy features metal accoutrements including two figural baseballs and an applied figure of a batter. Includes LOA from the Suplizio family: EX-MT
