Lot Number: 484

Description: Lot of (2) game balls from Cal Ripken's record tying (2,130) and record breaking (2,131) appearances for consecutive games played. As a coach for the Anaheim Angels, Sam Suplizio was on the field at Camden Yards the night of Sept. 5, 1995, when Cal Ripken tied Lou Gehrig's streak of 2,130 consecutive starts, and again the following night when Ripken broke the record by playing in number 2,131. Suplizio kept a favorite picture on his desk of himself embracing Cal Ripken Jr. minutes after the Baltimore Orioles infielder set baseball's ironman record. Mr. Suplizio called it the biggest thrill of his career in baseball. Offered here are baseballs obtained by Suplizio from each of those games. Both balls are Ripken special edition Budig AL balls with notations including "Game 2130 -Tied Record Orioles 8, Angels 0 Official Game Ball" and "Game Ball 2131 - Broke Record Orioles 4, Angels 1 Official Game Ball". Both show moderate soiling and typical usage characteristics. Includes an elaborate custom display that features two glove shaped ball holders and a plaque with images of Ripken and Gehrig and engraved titling. Includes LOAs from the Suplizio family and Hunt Auctions: EX
