Description: Rare Larry Doby 1949 All-Star Game professional model baseball bat. Louisville Slugger 125 model bat measures 34"" long and weighs 32.6oz. The bat exhibits evident use including multiple ball marks with stitching impressions on the barrel end along with appropriate light grain swelling. Model #O16 is found stamped on the knob end with ""All Star Game Doby Brooklyn 1949"" lettering on the barrel. Both the barrel and handle areas have a few minor surface nicks from either use or handling wear. In addition to his standing as a superb all around baseball player, Larry Doby was an important figure in the history of the game, having been the first African American to play in the American League. Doby went on to star for the Cleveland Indians for many years, appearing in several World Series and All-Star Game contests. The offered bat is of great significance for two reasons. The 1949 All-Star Game was Doby's first appearance of seven. In addition, the 1949 game marked the first time Louisville Slugger stamped the special ""All-Star Game"" insignia on the barrel of their bats. Outstanding and historic game used bat which originated directly from the family of Larry Doby. Includes LOA from Hunt Auctions and LOA from MEARS Authentication (Graded A10): EX-EX/MT
