Lot Number: 197

Description: Scarce 1920 Joe Sewell professional model baseball bat with factory side writing. Louisville Slugger 40K model bat measures 34.5" long and weighs 38.4oz. The bat exhibits tremendous evidence of use including ball marks, stitching impressions, grain swelling, cleat marks, repaired handle crack, and several period finish nails in the barrel area. "SEWELL" is stamped boldly in block lettering on the barrel end. Period Hillerich & Bradsby Co. factory side writing is visible on a side panel, "Joe Sewell 4-25-23 Kork". Not only do Louisville Slugger factory records reference this very bat, but Sewell also signed his player bat contract on 10/2/1920. It would be reasonable, therefore, to deduce that the offered bat was manufactured and used by Sewell during his rookie season of 1920, which was also a World Series season for his Cleveland Indians. Notable collecting obscurity dating to Sewell's rookie season and World Series year. Includes LOA from Hunt Auctions and LOA from MEARS Authentication (Graded A10): VG-EX
