Lot Number: 144

Description: Fine 1923-25 Babe Ruth professional model baseball bat. Louisville Slugger 125 model bat measures 36" long and weighs 37.5oz. Both the Louisville Slugger centerbrand (1921-31 labeling) and the "Babe Ruth" facsimile name stampings on the barrel remain quite pronounced. The bat presents perfect evidence of use including ball stitching impressions, grain swelling, and cleat marks. Bat retains its beautiful, original finish exhibiting a rich, deep brown color. The handle once had a typical crack from usage which has been professionally repaired. Babe Ruth's position as the most prolific figure in baseball history is rightly proportionate to his standing in the field of baseball collectibles. No object embodies Ruth's persona greater than a bat he personally used, the ultimate tool of his trade. The offered example is a superior specimen, dating to 1923-25 according to factory records. During that time, Ruth's transition from Boston to New York turned the baseball world on its head, gave birth to the greatest dynasty in team sports, and restored baseball as America's National Pastime in the wake of the infamous Black Sox scandal. With regard to era, ideal usage characteristics, and display quality, this bat ranks as a superb exemplar dating to the prime of Ruth's storied career. Includes LOAs from Hunt Auctions, Inc. and MEARS (Graded A8).
