Description: 1954 Willie Mays "Bud Hillerich Memorial Award" certificate. Presentational certificate (11.25"x15") awarded to Willie Mays following his 1954 Rookie season in recognition of his (.345) average and the batting title it earned. "John A. Bud Hillerich Memorial Award" titling across the top and the name "Willie H. Mays, Jr." is lettered in along with December 1954 date. John Hillerich has signed along the bottom. The Hillerich name is synonymous with baseball having founded and then run the famed Hillerich & Bradsby Company which makes Louisville Slugger baseball bats. Improper storage has resulted in soiling and discoloration throughout along with some other age related wear. It is likely that some of this could be reduced by a professional conservator.
