Description:1962 Jim Kaat Gold Glove Award. Prestigious figural award as presented annually to the premier defensive players of the National and American League by position. Walnut wooden plinth base displays a full size gilt painted Rawlings leather glove with "Major League All Star Fielding Team" text. Figural baseball shaped finial dated "1962" is affixed in front of diamond shaped wooden back splash with brass facade having "Rawlings Gold Glove Award" inscribed on front. Brass placard on the base front reads, "1962 P - Jim Kaat, The Sporting News American League All-Star Fielding Team". Displays very nicely with the brass plate on lower front being a modern replacement. The glove support was likewise redone and while the glove is a vintage example, which surely was original to one of Kaat's other (16) career Gold Glove Awards, it is not that which would have originally come with this example. Kaat lead the American League in shutouts in 1962 winning (18) games in his breakout season earning the first of what would become (16) career Gold Glove Awards. Includes signed letter of provenance from Jim Kaat: EX with note to description
