Description:1973 Roberto Clemente memorial patch on period c.1972 Pittsburgh Pirates professional model jersey. Rare and desirable team issued "21" patch which was worn by the Pittsburgh Pirates during the 1973 season in honor of the tragic passing of Roberto Clemente in December of 1972. It is affixed to a Pirates 1972 professional model road jersey. Jersey has its' original "Pirates" team name lettered across the front. The number "41" below and on back was placed on the shirt by the team, in the period, however the "1" numeral was changed in both cases. The patch also appears to have an outline of another around the perimeter. Rawlings tag on the inside front tail notes size (42) and there is an adjacent "Set 2 #8P 1972" flag tag attached. Use, wash, and some general age related wear are evident throughout. The number "41" was worn by Manager Bill Virdon at the time and it is likely that the Pirates prepared a 1972 jersey for his use in 1973. Includes LOA from Hunt Auctions: VG-EX
