Description:Extremely rare 1903 World Series Game Three ticket stub : Newly discovered example from the Inaugural World Series Original heavy stock stub issued for the game played in Boston at the Huntington Avenue Baseball Grounds. Pittsburgh emerged the winner with the Pirates workhorse Deacon Phillippe pitching on only one day of rest leading his team to a 4 to 2 victory. The ticket stub denotes the two participant teams at top with portions of game number three indicated below. The small population of inaugural World Series tickets, both Boston and Pittsburgh, are particularly susceptible to condition issues given their original fragility and environment of use. This example remains approximately half complete with the lower portion now missing. Along with its mate within this auction the offered ticket was recently discovered within the estate of an advanced hobbyist who assembled their collection over a number of decades. One of only a scant few exemplars to be offered publicly as issued for the first World Series and a Holy Grail among collectors of all baseball related tickets. Includes a report from Frank Romano (Professor Emeritus, Rochester Institute of Technology & President, Museum of Printing) confirming that the paper stock and print are correct for the period: See description
