Description:**Superlative 1962 Willie Mays autographed San Francisco Giants professional model home uniform: Photomatched to MLB All-Star Game and two others including Home Run game (MeiGray)(SGC Authentication/Grob: Superior). Cream color flannel jersey proudly displaying “Giants” team name across the front with the iconic uniform number “24” in matching black on orange felt affixed to the back. “Willie Mays” chain stitched strip tag positioned inside the collar area with proper Wilson manufacturer’s label on the tail front having size 42 indicator. Additional “1962” chain stitched supplemental strip tag also on the tail front above a bold Willie Mays autograph in black sharpie. Notably, the jersey includes the matching pants with interior waistband retaining its original Wilson manufacturer’s label, having a size 34 indicator. Secondary chain stitched tags with “W.Mays” and “1962” remain intact alongside of the Wilson tagging. Both jersey and pants display very fine evident use including varying areas of soiling residue, wash wear to the lettering/numerals, age toning/ “puckering” to the manufacturer’s tagging, and wear to the strip tag inside collar which has partially separated (some losses) from its perimeter stitching. The jersey and pants were quite evidently dry cleaned in the period which allowed for their excellent state of preservation with some typical light rigidity to the surface materials from same. The shirt was conclusively photomatched by MeiGray to three games during the 1962 season: 1) April 30, 1962 against the Pittsburgh Pirates. Giants won 4-1 with Mays going 1-2 with two walks and career home run #326. 2) July 5, 1962 against the L.A. Dodgers with Mays going 0-4. 3) July 30, 1962 MLB All-Star Game at Wrigley Field (second All-Star Game) with Mays going 2-2 in a 9 to 4 loss against the American League team. The jersey features several unique characteristics that specifically match the subject images including several loose threads on team lettering and a bump created in the jersey along the collar piping. Additionally, the uniform has been authenticated by Dave Grob at SGC Authentication and assigning it the highest possible grade, “Superior”. Grob further notes that he could “not exclude the jersey from being used in the 1962 World Series”. Willie Mays 1962 season continued his era of dominance in the National League leading the Giants to the World Series once again and falling just one vote short of what would have been his second NL MVP award. While several late 1960s and early 1970s Mays game jerseys periodically surface within the marketplace it is exceedingly rare for the 1950s and early 1960s examples to become available. More notably, the fact that this particular jersey is accompanied by its original pants elevates the jersey and pants duo to the most elite Willie Mays uniform population documented within the hobby. Includes LOA from MeiGray (Photomatch), LOA from SGC Authentication/Grob (Superior), full LOA from JSA (Autograph), and certificate of provenance from the Willie Mays Collection: EX
