Description: Significant 1954 Willie Mays "Schaefer Puerto Rican Plaque" award (Caribbean Series Champions)(NL MVP Season)(World Championship season). Rare early career award dates to perhaps Mays' finest season in 1954 when he won his first NL MVP Award and led the New York Giants to the World Series title. Mays then joined the Santurce Crabbers Puerto Rican team capturing the Caribbean Series championship with teammate Roberto Clemente. Walnut wooden shield shaped plaque displays a finely engraved brass placard inscribed to Mays for "Outstanding Performance in 1954". Brass columnar decor at top flanking a finely embossed baseball player medallion. 10" tall with light to moderate surface wear. One of the earliest award plaques in the collection dating to the Mays iconic 1954 season and the legendary Puerto Rican team.
