Description: Willie Mays Award Plaque from the New York Amsterdam News (Mays Collection Photomatch). Notable high quality presentational award plaque as given to Mays by the prominent African American newspaper led by editor C.B. Powell who was nominated to become president of the Negro National Baseball League in 1940. Wooden plaque displays a very heavy gauge inscribed brass placard across the front with N.Y. Amsterdam News titling at top inscribed to Mays underneath denoting some relation to Willie Mays Day and his contributions to the New York Giants and character. 9"x14" with moderate surface wear including some minor scratching.
