Description: Scarce and possibly unique Willie Mays autographed photograph (PSA/DNA 8 NM-MT). Vintage black and white image of a young Willie Mays with the Chattanooga Choo Choos semi pro baseball team on which he played in 1945 and 1946. Mays was only in 9th and 10th grade school when he played for the Choo Choos as a pre-cursor to joining the Birmingham Black Barons on the Negro Leagues in 1948. Young Mays is pictured kneeling at lower center having signed in blue ink underneath with an arrow pointing to his image. Signature rates 8 out of 10 with the blank backed image having some edge creasing and a more pronounced crease at lower right corner. Remarkably rare image and almost certainly uniquely signed example.
