Description: UPDATED DESCRIPTION: Important 1973 John Wooden letter to Bill Walton. Remarkable three page typewritten letter as sent to Bill Walton from iconic UCLA Bruins basketball coach John Wooden on August 17, 1973. The letter was likely sent to all members of the Bruins NCAA Championship team with Bill's bearing special significance given his status as the best player in college basketball. Content is superb including expected behavior, character, off season work, and ethics. A few excerpts: 1) "It occurs to me that the development of a UCLA varsity basketball team is much like the production of play. The success of a play depends upon a worthy story, fine acting, and good directing, while the success of our team hinges upon a sound system." 2) "Have your feet tough and in shape to run without causing blisters." 3) "Be determined to do what is expected of you by those who are responsible for you and the team." The letter is signed in blue ink on the third page, "Coach Wooden" rating 8 out of 10. UPDATE: Please note, the 'Coach Wooden' signature is secretarially signed. UCLA stationary has some light surface wrinkling with a few scattered toning areas mostly on the back of the third page. Although secretarially signed, the letter serves as a poignant direct correspondence between the two seminal members of the UCLA Bruins NCAA Championship teams of the 1970s era. Includessigned letter of provenance from Walton Family: Letter: EX, Signature: NM-MT
