Description:Rare early 4-strap leather "head harness" football helmet c.1890s-1900s. Highly uncommon style is among the earlier "head harness" helmets which we have offered. Crown is comprised of two leather straps, one of which (running side to side) meets a pair of additional strips to which the ear flaps are anchored. Moderate use and some general age related wear includes areas of flaking/loss to the upper surface of the leather. Wool padding inside is largely intact. No visible markings although the helmet appears to have been done at a very high level of quality: VG
